What is Paediatric Rheumatology?

Paediatric Rheumatology encompasses the management of a broad range of inflammatory and non-inflammatory diseases involving the musculoskeletal system as well as multiple other systems. Paediatric Rheumatologists care for children from newborns through to adolescents.

Conditions managed by Paediatric Rheumatologists include:

  • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis
  • Post infectious and reactive arthritis
  • Juvenile Dermatomyositis
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
  • Vasculitis
  • Periodic fever syndromes such as Familial Mediterranean Fever
  • Non inflammatory pain syndromes including Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Sports related pain
