Dr Julia Phillips
General Paediatrician
Julia completed her medical undergraduate qualifications at the prestigious University of Edinburgh in Scotland, one of the oldest medical schools in the English-speaking world. She spent the first few years of her Paediatric training in Glasgow, including working at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill. She made a permanent move to the sunnier climes of Melbourne in 2007 and has never looked back. During her training, Julia has cared for children in such diverse environments as Neonatal Intensive Care; Paediatric Nephrology; Paediatric Infectious Diseases; Community and Developmental Paediatrics; Paediatric Emergency Medicine and has extensive General Paediatric Inpatient and Outpatient experience. She has worked in a number of Victorian institutions, including the Monash Children’s Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital. She also spent a year working in Gippsland to gain an insight into Rural Paediatric Medicine.
Julia completes regular ‘ward service’ at Monash Children’s Hospital, where she is responsible for the care of acutely unwell children who have been admitted under her team. Julia’s early experiences with the NHS in the UK have ingrained in her the importance of ensuring excellent medical care is available to everyone, via a free public health service. As such, she also contributes to patient care in public General Paediatric clinics at Monash Children’s Hospital.
One of Julia’s passions is to help train the next generation of doctors. She is an Associate Teacher at Monash University, where she regularly teaches trainee doctors, and is a medical student Examiner once per year. She also provides tutoring and mentoring to junior doctors working at Monash Children’s Hospital.
When not working, Julia loves to spend time with her two children and their friends; explore the beautiful Australian outdoors and is a hobbyist photographer. She is obsessed with tennis, running and keeping fit and healthy.
Julia welcomes all Paediatric referrals of a general nature; from newborns to adolescents still at school. These may include;
